Esu lokprogrammer driver

I got my own LokProgrammer a few weeks ago, and at first I had quite a bit of trouble getting it working. I installed all drivers correctly as per ESU's instructions, but I kept getting a pop-up stating "This device malfunctioned" and in Device Manager it is listed as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".  · Yes, the Lokprogrammer came with the USB cable, and I downloaded the driver from ESU's website. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I don't have any more ideas. Interestingly, I also tried the USB/serial cable that I have that does work on this Mac for JMRI (to connect to my NCE command station), but it also wasn't recognized. With the LokProgrammer you can erase the sound data of any LokSound decoder as many times as you wish, and replace it with a different sound. ESU offers than different, fully matching sounds of various prototypes and locos for downloading on your computer. Also you can edit just parts of a sound project: You don’t like the decoder’s whistle?Brand: ESU Loksound.

As the LokProgrammer uses an RS serial port, an adapter cable is required to connect to newer computers which lack the 9-pin D connector style serial port. ESU includes a USB to RS bridge cable. A driver must be installed to create a Virtual Com Port on an IBM compatible computer. Macintosh users also require a driver. To program those decoders I have the ESU LokProgrammer which I really like, and am running the latest updates to the software. I'm not sure why this happens, but after programming the decoder, when I try to use the Driver's Cab feature of the software to test sound levels, proper decoder function, etc. nothing happens.
